After five straight days of making snow, it’s time for Mother Nature to take over. With 2-4 inches of nature snow forecasted through Sunday morning and moderating temperatures and humidity levels, snowmaking will go off-line later this afternoon.
Since we started making snow on Tuesday, we’ve had more than 100 Low E guns in operation on the upper portion of Killington Peak. Our team of eight snowmakers has done an outstanding job building an early-season base on Rime, Reason, East Fall, Upper Double Dipper and Great Northern.
We are looking ahead to the next window of opportunity to resume snowmaking and our preparations for the 2009-10 ski and snowboard season. Stay tuned …
I wish K-town would post some photos on the website of the snowmaking progress...there has been nothing since the 14th

have you given any thought to this type of solution to the lack of an early season New lifts
Based on replacing an existing lifts a new 2 stage high speed glade chair would require turn at mid-station
Stage 1 K1 area starting somewhere between old ½ pipe on high line and kms bldg to existing glade area
Stage 2 glade area to expanded glade peak or to new peak lodge
Benefits are top to bottom access in early season from 1 lift with mid mountain loading/access and possibility for downloading in October
Upper mountain access during weather related closures affecting gondola
Alleviate crowding a gondola on high traffic periods
Quick access to canyon area vie east fall (highly manmade snow area)
Drawbacks:
Loss of some tree skiing by cutting through chop chop and toilet bowl as well as over royal flush this would roughly parallel races edge, Wouldn’t eliminate any just some thinning would be required
Option 2
Replace south ride triple includes new turn location and bubble
Also high speed and 2 stages
Stage 1 south ridge base to escapade/old k chair mid location
Stage 2 escapade / old K chair location to new K peak lodge
Benefits: wind screen for coldest ride on mountain
High speed and new turn would take roughly same time to peak area
Mid station would allow early season skiing on roughly same terrain Killington accessed for close to 45 years in October and reclaim 1st in east from now on.
Inexperienced skiers talked into skiing cascade/escapade /downdraft would have escape rout back up to Killington peak and restart from there
Quick access from bear to K1 peak lodge and base,
peak access from canyon/glade and snowdon peaks as well as bear would greatly increase lunch revenue as a result of increased access
stages could run separately based on need
Drawbacks:
Also loss of some tree skiing
New route would cross ridge and go over /through spool and the light. would not close it just require some significant thinning for mid station terminal
Requires gondola for downloading in early season
